Foxy lady seeding DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE

Yep, I was told it’s the mother plant genes that determine the fruit/seed so you can’t tell an F1 hybrid without growing it! Seed from a foxtail palm will only look like foxtail seeds even if something else is going in the seed. But I have had a foxy lady from came off of one of my foxtails…. Anyone have success with seeds from a foxy lady? After many years and trees that are ungodly tall, my foxy lady, 1 of 2 dropped 2 very ripe very real looking seeds.
Erik, the Foxtails were planted many months before the F1 Foxyladies. If so did they sprout around the same time frame? If there are variegated foxladies, they are obvious. What I have noticed is that the width of the foxylady leaves tend to be a little wider and a little more dark hairs on the leaf bases.

There is a variegated one on ebay right now ends in 21 hours Yup, and that’s why 100% green go for more $$ Regular ‘ol green specimens always look flawless.

gal Foxy Lady (wodyetia x Veitchia)

  • You got an amazing holy grail palm at a discount price.
  • That is how you can tell the difference between foxtail and Foxy Lady hybrid.
  • I have some flowering/fruiting foxtails near an adonidia doing the same.
  • It’s in a 15 gal but it ideally should go in the ground soon, it’s filled in that pot already.
  • Regardless, good luck and hopefully you’ll be able to get a hold of this great palm sooner rather than later..
  • Seed from a foxtail palm will only look like foxtail seeds even if something else is going in the seed.
  • The seeds all had 2 white racing stripes.

Here is the 5th seed that failed float test. I picked up a few seed that was on the ground while taking pics. I have 2 that look just like a foxtail. I know of 1 other grower in Cape Coral that gets viable seed.

Leaning Foxy Lady palm

Look how elongated this viable F2 seed is, that I picked up yesterday. Maybe a few other palmtalkers that I sold F2 to can pipe in. The F2 I am growing so far is hard to tell if they will have the vigor yet, but so far, so good. The over variegated ones seem to languish and slowly die or just grow very slow, probably due to lack of chlorophyll. Are they the same as an F1 growth rate?
I bought a 7 gallon from Premier Growers about 8 months ago and it’s already outgrowing the 25 gallon pot I moved foxy gold it into. Here is the palm, looks very healthy aside from the obvious cold spots on the old fronds. Are they the first two foxy ladies cultivated??? Sign up for a new account in our community. Number 1 on my personal list of favorite feather-leaved / crown shafted palms so i completely understand the allure / desire to grow one ( …or a few, lol ).. They will feel heavier than the empty seeds as well.

What is the difference between Foxtail & Foxylady seedlings?

I have got palms from Flouibunda and jungle music and never had the problem I had with this palm of you are going to ship palms at least learn how to pack them!!! I never said the palm looked bad I said it was basically bare root and variegated which I specifically said I didn’t want!!! He is the only one to have a problem with their foxy lady order, and started to complain even before it was delivered. 1 of each 3 and 7 is slightly variegated with 2 of each being greens. Good quality plant and amazing growth.

  • While the largest would flower & produce seed often, most seed i’d collect were empty or basically liquid when opened.
  • I don’t know the different rates of growth for them in Florida.

  • Kind of like a cross between foxtail fiber and the very smooth Vechis fiber.
  • Perhaps as a couple of adjacent palms get a little larger I’ll have to be proactive and remove it, along with a -postmortem of what was happening internally at the weeping site.

Call me anytime to chat about transplanting palms. They say the foxy lady is a rocket but the growth rate appears to be the same as seedlings. The foxtails have been grown in some shade, and the foxyladies have been growing in at least 1/2 day Sun.
For the past few months, specimens are in the 1gal pot size, with the palm being around a 1’ in height, most are variegated form. A potted palm, drought tolerant or not, needs watering much more often than one in the ground that’s established. It’s a bad combination for the palm to deal with root trauma and to fight full scorching sun at the same time. I have 2 smaller foxys, and they were sensitive to repotting; it stunted their growth for several months.

I planted a 1 gallon Cyphophoenix elgans to the east of it about 3-4 years ago, so its just starting to gain some momentum. Sorry to hear this…..time to edit and replace. The Caryota had to be edited after it flowered; this is the nature of a garden that some plant won’t outlive us. Obviously the dark spots on the trunk remain as photographed above . Two years later and the palm is still standing but also continuing to show the consistent tilt.
